How to Hang Wall Art
posted by admin inYour home is an expression of your personality and tastes, and using wall art hung carefully can enhance this effect. Maybe you have oil paintings or family photographs that you would like to hang. Or maybe you have created or collected posters, paintings or drawings that reflect your artistic sensibilities. The challenge now is to find where to hang the wall art and how to make it stay where you put it. The first thing to do is match the wall art to space you have available. For example a small oil painting would look overwhelmed and out of place on a big wall; whereas a huge wall art would look slightly cramped and awkward in a small space. You can place artworks that have something in common together, whether it is subject matter, color or style. This could mean a group of landscape oil paintings or a set of black and white photographs, or even a wall full of pictures of cats, depending on your tastes and what kind of wall art you have available. Similar style frames can look good together and will unite a group of varied works. A useful tip is to lay your oil paintings or wall art out on the floor to see how they would look together. Alternatively you can try measuring your artwork and cutting templates out of cardboard to match the size. Then tape the templates to the wall and stand well back to see how they look. The trick is to rearrange them until the spacing looks just right. Wall art should be centered at eye level â roughly 57 or 59 inches from the floor. You can easily achieve this by cutting a piece of string with either a pushpin or pencil tied at the end. Then with one end of the string touching the floor line you use the pushpin or pencil to to mark the height where you will hang your oil paintings, photos or other artworks. Ensure your wall art has hanging wire on the back. It is easy to add if itâs not already there. Then use picture hooks to hang your wall art. You will find picture hooks in most hardware stores but be careful to choose the kind with small nails and brass hooks as these causes less damage to your walls.
